Water consumption by industries in India

Thermal power plants are the largest consumers of water in India's industrial sector. They use massive quantities of water for cooling purposes in the condensation process during electricity generation. A thermal power plant requires approximately 100,000 liters of water to generate 1 MW of electricity. While paper and pulp industry also consumes significant water, thermal power plants consume more in absolute terms. Textiles and engineering industries consume considerably less water compared to thermal power and paper industries.
