Western Ghats Protection

Both the Gadgil Committee Report (2011) and the Kasturirangan Committee Report (2012) are directly related to the protection and conservation of the Western Ghats. The Gadgil Committee was headed by Prof. Madhav Gadgil and recommended strict regulations for development in the Western Ghats region, identifying it as an ecologically sensitive area. The Kasturirangan Committee, headed by Prof. K. Kasturirangan, reviewed and refined these recommendations. These committees dealt with biodiversity conservation, environmental protection, and sustainable development in the Western Ghats—not constitutional reforms (a), Ganga Action Plan (b), or river linking (c).
