Temple Architecture Styles

Temples 2 and 3 feature a Nagara-style shikhara. The Gupta-era Dashavatara Temple at Deogarh is a classic early example of the northern Nagara style with a curvilinear shikhara (3). The Early Chalukyas experimented with diverse styles at Aihole, incorporating a northern curvilinear Nagara superstructure onto the Huchimalligudi temple (2). Malegitti Shivalaya (1) and the Virupaksha Temple at Pattadakal (4) are built in the southern Dravidian style, characterized by tiered vimana designs.
